The Mauritian passport, 2nd most powerful among African countries
The recently released Henley Passport Index is the most reliable ranking of the world’s passports. It measures the passport of every country in the world according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The Information for the ranking is based on the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the largest and most precise database of travel information.
Only two African countries feature in the top 50, Seychelles and Mauritius, respectively 1st and 2nd in Africa. Mauritius offers visa-free access to 146 countries and is followed by South Africa. Seychelles grants visa-free access to 151 countries.
Globally, Asia dominates the top of the list. For the third consecutive year, the country of the rising sun, Japan, claims the number one spot on the index with a visa-free/visa-on-arrival score of 191. Singapore follows closely with a score of 190. South Korea and Germany are on par with 189 points and rank 3rd worldwide.
